Bright Raven gymnasts win

Bright Raven gymnast Jackie VanDeWater, of Churchville, medalled at the USA Gymnastics Level 8 State Championships held on Long Island April 13. VanDeWater earned sixth place in vaulting competition with a score of 9.05. Jackie VanDeWater is a senior a Churchville-Chili High School and is planning to attend Nazareth College next year.

The same weekend, Bright Raven's compulsory teams traveled to Lancaster, New York to participate in a USAG Sectional. In the Level 6 competition for gymnasts age 12 and over, Breanna Fischer of Gates captured first all around (36.60), first on balance beam (9.00) and third on the uneven parallel bars (9.20). Sabrina Hill of Hamlin took first place on bars (9.40) and third all around (36.025). Amber Kober of Ogden was second on beam (9.00), third on vault (9.20) and third on floor exercise (9.325). In the 10-11 age division, Rachel Eckert of Irondequoit was second on beam (8.90).

Bright Raven's Level 5 gymnasts also made a fine showing. In the 12 and over division, Allison Grove of Chili claimed first place on the uneven bars (9.30). Emily Gutknecht of Rochester took first in floor exercise (9.60). Maura Wojak of Chili was third on floor (9.425) and second on beam (8.90). In the 9-11 age group, Amanda Arcieri of Chili was third in floor exercise (9.375).
