Bergen Planning Committee considering development

The Village of Bergen Planning Board is considering the application of Budvale Construction Corporation to develop the triangle of property formed by Route 19, Route 262, and Route 33, just south of the village center.

George "Bud" Filowick of Churchville, the owner of Budvale, has proposed 40 single-family homes, 40 town homes, and 40 luxury apartments for the site, once the Mayne family homestead. The company recently finished a similar project in Churchville called Village Park.

"The homes we hope to build in Bergen will be similar in style to those in Village Park, ranging in value from $120,000 to $190,000," Filowick said. "The town homes will cost about $130,000 and the apartments will be luxury style."

The project is still in the planning stages, said Bergen Mayor Tom LeSage, noting that the property was recently annexed into the village. "We are just getting started," he said. "The property needs to be rezoned before anything can happen." Currently the parcel is zoned suburban residential, Filowick has asked for Planned Unit Development (P.U.D.) zoning. Necessary infrastructure such as sewers and public water is already in place.

"If this project is done right, it will be a good thing for the village," LeSage said. "We are going to take our time and use our resources wisely."

LeSage added that he, the village board, and the planning committee welcome the input of Bergen's citizens about the project. The planning board meets the third Wednesday of every month. In addition, interested parties can call the village office and leave their names and mailing addresses so that they can be informed of board and committee meeting agendas. The phone number for the village is 494-1513.
