Brockport considers keeping third ambulance in service
With the village's self imposed six month deadline drawing near, discussions at the May 5 village board meeting centered around keeping the fire department's third ambulance in service. more

Brockport inundated with FOIL requests
On an given day, Brockport Village Clerk Leslie Morelli said she receives upwards to 100 Freedom of Information requests. "It's gotten to the point where I have considered leaving this position because of the FOILS," she said at the May 6 village board meeting. more

Community service award winner announced
The Brockport/Clarkson/Sweden Joint Recreation Commission, has for twenty years, honored a community member whose contribution to recreation programming was noteworthy. more

Dates set for budget hearing/info night
The Holley Central School District will present its proposed budget for the 2003-04 school year at a budget hearing on Tuesday, May 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Holley Junior/Senior High School auditorium. more

Good community stewardship
Last year the Hilton-Parma Community Council's Food Shelf provided supplies for 1,600 meals to 103 adults and 93 children. The Council's Christmas Basket Program through member churches delivered 49 baskets with food and gifts. more

Health career scholarships offered at GCC
Although the not-for-profit Genesee-Orleans Homemakers, Inc. recently dissolved, its goal of providing high-quality home health care will continue through a $23,112 gift to the Genesee Community College Foundation, Executive Director Richard Ensman has announced. more

Hosts needed for New York City children
Summer vacation for children in New York state is approaching. Previously, families in the Spencerport area and throughout thirteen Northeastern states and Canada have hosted more than 1.7 million disadvantaged New York City children to experience free summer vacations in suburban and small town communities through The Fresh Air Fund. more

The state budget recently passed by lawmakers in Albany provides Spencerport Central School District with more revenue than originally projected in the governor's proposed budget. more

The RPYO's final concert of this 2002-2003 season, scheduled for Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m. at Roberts Wesleyan College is a showcase of the talents of the Youth Orchestra musicians. more

View bald eagles live on Eagle Cam
Two pairs of bald eagles at Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) began a new generation last month. Generally, eagles lay from one to three eggs in the middle of March, and incubate for 35-42 days. more

In the Rochester area, the National Association of Letter Carriers (Branch 210), the United States Postal Service and the United Way will sponsor the Help Stamp Out Hunger food drive, which will take place from Monday, June 9 through Saturday, June 14. more

Poppies are symbols of sacrifice and caring

Winners of the Employee of the Year Program were announed by Linda Hafner, director of Transportation for Churchville-Chili Central School district at a luncheon held at the C-C Transportation facility. more

Churchville educator honored as Woman of the Year in the Arts
Churchville-Chili Intermediate School music teacher Phyl Contestable was recognized as Woman of the Year in the Arts by the Italian American community. The award recognizes women who have made exceptional contributions to ensure the next generation will form a positive self-identity and be encouraged to carry on their work for the common good. more

Churchville Elementary School students are on the Wright Way
Churchville Elementary School will be hosting a school celebration on Friday, May 16 at 1:30 p.m. The main driveway entrance to the school will be renamed Wright Way in honor of the former principal, George Wright. A new street sign will be unveiled at this celebration.

Food baskets delivered by cafeteria workers
Spencerport's cafeteria workers spent Thursday, April 18, their day off, sorting food and filling boxes and baskets to deliver to six district families. The spring food basket project was a way for the cafeteria workers to give back to the community. more

The Holley Hawks closed to within a run in the fifth inning before Batavia Notre Dame scored ten runs in the seventh to pull away in a 16-5 victory in high school varsity baseball. more

Karate students bring home trophies
Hilton Kyokushin Karate held the 1st Annual Sensei Jim Grafe Memorial Karate Tournament on Saturday, May 3. Events of the tournament consisted of: Kata (pre-arranged patterns), Clicker Fighting (point system sparring), Semi-Contact Fighting, and Tamishawari (the art of breaking). more

National Student Athlete Day was celebrated by Kendall Junior/Senior High School in April. This day was created to honor student athletes who have pursued excellence both in the classroom and on the playing field, while having made significant contributions to their schools and/or communities. more

Soapbox derby events planned
Clarendon's 4th annual Soapbox Car Race will be held on Saturday, June 7. The goals of the event are positive youth development and family and community involvement. more
