Karate students
bring home trophies

Hilton Kyokushin Karate held the 1st Annual Sensei Jim Grafe Memorial Karate Tournament on Saturday, May 3. Events of the tournament consisted of: Kata (pre-arranged patterns), Clicker Fighting (point system sparring), Semi-Contact Fighting, and Tamishawari (the art of breaking).

Students from Holley Karate competed in the various events of the tournament. It was the first time competing in such a tournament for most of the students.

The Holley Karate school collected seven trophies in the Kata event. Kelsey Hughson took first place in her division. Sempai Larry Quaranto, Hali Quaranto, Elizabeth Pritchard and Camron Quaranto placed second in their divisions. Other competitors in the Kata event were Vicki Chalker, Paige Whittier and Sempai Jeff Roberts.

Holley Karate school collected eight trophies in the Clicker Fighting event. Elizabeth Pritchard, Camron Quaranto and Andrea Quaranto placed first in their divisions. Sempai Jeff Roberts, Paige Whittier, Kim Whittier and Thad Whittier placed second in their divisions. Hali Quaranto placed fourth in her division of Clicker Fighting.

Sempai George Kiefer placed first in the men's division of Tamishawari. He broke a total of 24 boards in the event.
