Bus drivers show skills at road-eo

The Rochester Area School Bus Road-eo will be held on Saturday, May 31, at the Brockport Central School District at 9 a.m.

The bus road-eo is sponsored by the Rochester Area School Bus Safety Road-eo Association, a committee of people from schools or contractors whose main purpose is to bring together one body fostering school bus safety and giving recognition to outstanding school transportation personnel. Participants test their knowledge of the rules and regulations in various situations.

The School Bus Road-eo is hosted by local schools and contractors in the months of May or June. Contestants must have a C.D.L. license with a passenger endorsement and be employed by a Chapter's transportation department that is a member of RATSA.

The drivers must navigate through a course of obstacles. This includes backing into a narrow passageway without hitting the barriers, proper crossing procedure at railroad tracks, a serpentine of barrels and other situations. The driver must also perform an inspection of the vehicle showing knowledge of regulation check points within eight minutes, as well as taking a 19-A written test.

The actual driving portion of the road-eo is open to the public. All are welcome to come and watch a demonstration of bus-driving.
