Jennifer L. Schweers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Schweers of Spencerport, has been selected as a Charles O. Thompson Scholar, an honors designation for outstanding first-year students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

The designation is named in honor of the first president of the Institute. To be eligible as a scholar, students must receive all As and Bs, with a minimum of six As, in their academic subjects during the first three terms at WPI.


Natalie Jones of Forest Meadow Trail, Rochester, a senior majoring in music education in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University, was inducted into the University's chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda Honor Society.

Pi Kappa Lambda Honor Society recognizes and encourages musical achievement and academic scholarship. To be eligible for induction, students must be in the top 20 percent of their junior class or the top 10 percent of their senior class. Graduate students must have grades of A in two-thirds of their graduate studies.


Vicki Ingram Worden has been named president of the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association. This is a non-profit trade association representing small business retailers in the building material industry located on Capital Hill in Washington, D.C.

Worden is a 1987 graduate of Spencerport High School and a 1991 graduate of Westchester University. She is married to Gregory Worden, also a 1987 graduate of Spencerport, and they have two sons.

She is the daughter of Alvin and Barbara Ingram of Spencerport.


Brian Thomas, son of Elaine and Henry Thomas of Hilton, graduated summa cum laude on Saturday, May 10 from St. John Fisher College. He also received the 2003 Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges award.

Thomas is a 1999 Hilton graduate and will be continuing a career in medicine.


The United States Achievement Academy has announced that Christina Gray, from Kendall, has been named a United States National Award Winner in science. According to the Academy, fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students are recognized for this honor. Christina, who attends Kendall Jr./Sr. High School, was nominated by Mrs. Warren, a teacher. She will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Official Yearbook, which is published nationally. Christina is the daughter of Mike and Cathy Gray of Kendall.


Jordan D. Moskal, son of Dave and Edie Moskal of Ogden, graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at the commencement ceremony held May 17. He received a bachelor of science degree in information technology, with a concentration in e-business.

Moskal was also named to the dean's list during the spring semester. He also is a recipient of the Founders Award of Excellence.

He is furthering his education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute towards a graduate degree of master of science in information technology.


Marie Lloyd, daughter of Charlene and Michael Lloyd of Ogden, and a 1999 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School, has graduated cum laude from Binghamton University with a bachelor of science in psychology. She has also been recognized as MVP on the Women's Division I Track Team and received the University's John Bilos Award for Female Career Achievement in Athletics.

In August, she will begin her graduate studies in sport and exercise psychology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she has received an assistantship.


The staff and gymnasts of Bright Raven Gymnastics presented Kathy King with a plaque commemorating her 15th year as owner of Bright Raven Gymnastics on Tuesday, April 29. Bright Raven Gymnastics has been operating on the west side of Rochester since the mid 70s and is now located in the town of Gates. King joined the staff in 1985 and became owner in 1988. The program has blossomed to more than 700 students offering programs for all ages and abilities, from tots to advanced Junior Olympic competitors.

As program director, King oversees every aspect of the program and is actively involved in coaching all levels. This fall Bright Raven Gymnastics was honored by receiving the USA Gymnastics Region 6 Service Award for its "great contribution to the sport of gymnastics."

Bright Raven has hosted many state and regional events including state championships, regional clinics and judging seminars. Bright Raven offers year-round programming including summer day camps and evening classes.


Ms. Jennifer L. Renn received the juris doctor degree Sunday, May 11, from the Washington and Lee University School of Law. While at Washington and Lee, Renn was a peer counselor and worked as a Prosecutor's clinic participant.

She received her bachelor of arts from Washington and Lee University in 1997. Renn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Walton of Spencerport.

The following area residents were inducted into Phi Kappa Phi national honor society at a ceremony held in the recipients' honor on April 25, in Park Auditorium at Ithaca College.

•Rochester resident, Emily Liu, a junior majoring in journalism and politics and a Spencerport Central High School graduate.

•Hilton resident Elaine Loggi, a junior majoring in performance and a Hilton Central High School graduate.


Army Pvt. Timothy D. Rice has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina. Rice is the son of Dennis Rice of Rochester and a graduate of Spencerport High School.


Army Pvt. Russell E. Walls III has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina.

Walls is the son of Lynette Davis of Warsaw, and Russell Walls of Holley.


Air Force Airman David C. Kuzmicki has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Kuzmicki is the son of Robert Kuzmicki of Reddick Lane, Rochester, and a 2001 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School.
