Eagles knock off bees

The Kendall Eagles scored seven runs in the first inning and added four more in the sixth on their way to a 13-7 victory over Byron-Bergen in high school girl's varsity softball.

Jen Overfield had a two-run triple and Pam Bacchet added an RBI double in the first, which gave Kendall the lead after the Bees scored three in the top of the inning. The Eagles added two more runs in the second inning, one on a triple by Rachel Maxon and a groundout, to take a 9-3 lead.

The Bees began to chip away with single runs in the fifth and sixth. In the fifth, Nadine Lippa laced a one-out single to center, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Jenny Sheridan. In the sixth inning, walks to Ashley Hohn and Casey Harter and a fielder's choice put runners at second and third before Kristin Hale singled to center scoring Hohn to cut the Kendall lead to 9-5.

The Eagles put the game out of reach in their half of the sixth. Trisha D'Agostino led off with a single, stole second and went to third on a fielder's choice before scoring on Maxon's single. Maxon stole second and went to third on Stacey Rodas' infield single. Ann Bliss knocked in Maxon before Rodas and Bliss pulled off a double steal to plate another run. Bacchet had an RBI infield single for the final Eagle run.

The Bees mounted a late rally in the seventh when Alyssa D'Errico walked and scored on a double to right-center by Jen Wolfanger. After taking third on a wild pitch, Wolfanger scored on Hohn's sacrifice fly. The Bees then loaded the bases before a groundout to pitcher Nicole MacKensie ended the game.

The Eagles improved their record to 6-7 with the win.
