Chili to benefit from $100,000 study

According to Chili Supervisor Steve Hendershott, the Ballantyne Road Corridor Study has been funded for $100,000 in the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Update. The study will examine traffic conditions on Route 252 from the Ballantyne Bridge to Chili Avenue and then continuing on to the Union Street exit of I-490.

"This is a well established and heavily traveled east-west corridor through the heart of Chili," said Hendershott. "The study will identify existing traffic and safety problems and make recommendations for improvements." The town has been working with the Monroe County DOT and NYSDOT to obtain improvements along this corridor.

According to Hendershott, this road system has several areas of heavy congestion and includes several intersections that are inadequate to handle the traffic flow safely. Hendershott stated, "The study will lead to improvements that will benefit many Chili residents. I have been concerned about the safety of several intersections including Chili Avenue and Union Street as well as Chili Avenue and Chestnut Ridge Road." This study will begin to identify ways to make needed improvements throughout the seven mile stretch of roadways.

With the replacement of the Ballantyne Bridge scheduled for 2004, there is anticipated to be an increase in the present level of traffic and congestion. "The present and future traffic levels make this study important to be completed soon," Hendershott said, "and I'm happy to receive support for it."
