Spencerport School District sets new school start times

The Spencerport school board has approved new school start times for next school year. The times will accommodate the district's new three-trip transportation plan.

The new school start and end times, which are in keeping with most of the schools in the county, are:

The high school starts at 7:25 a.m. and ends at 2:10 p.m.

The middle school starts at 8:12 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m.

The elementary schools start at 8:55 a.m. and ends at 3:40 p.m.

There are several main reasons for the change, which was discussed early in the planning stages for the capital project. One is traffic congestion, especially at the high school and middle school, which the three-trip system will ease. In addition, with sixth-graders going to the middle school, around 400 students will be added to the secondary bus runs. To stay on a two-trip system would require significant additional expenditures for more buses and more drivers. Plus, the new bus loops are designed for a three-trip system.

Residents who have questions about the transportation plan for next year can contact their school office or the district's transportation director, Michael Proukou, at 349-5180 or mproukou@spencerportschools.org.
