Brockport netters win title

Brockport swept all three doubles matches and won two of the four singles matches in a 5-2 win over Hilton in boy’s tennis, which gave the Blue Devils their ninth Division II title in the last ten years.

Devin Hogan and Dave Maxim won their first doubles match 6-1, 6-3 while Grant Dimbleby and Mike O’Laughlin won at second doubles 6-3, 6-0. The third singles team of Blaine Hastings and Luke Rogers took three sets to win at third doubles 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.

Junior Paul Stevens continued his strong campaign with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 victory at first singles and sophomore Vishal Anuger won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 at third singles.

Hilton’s Sean Graf won his second singles match 6-3, 6-2 and Toby Dinnesen won at fourth singles in a tiebreaker 6-2, 3-6, 7-1.

Brockport finished the regular season 5-0, 7-1 and were seeded second in Class AA behind only Fairport for the Section Five team championships. They defeated seventh-seeded Churchville-Chili 6-1 in the first round and were to play the Pittsford-Mendon-Greece Athena winner in the semi-finals. Hilton finished the regular season 2-3, 5-4 and was seeded third in Class A. They beat sixth-seeded Irondequoit 5-2 in the first round.
