Educators recognized for excellence

More than 60 secondary school teachers from across Western New York were honored for their work on May 14 at the annual recognition dinner and ceremony at the Memorial Art Gallery. The teachers from area counties were selected by their schools for exceptional work in 2002-03.

Local teachers include:

Donna Smith of Brockport, who teaches physics at Gates-Chili High School, received one of this year's awards for excellence in high school teaching from the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development at the University of Rochester.

Anthony Guzzetta of Irondequoit, who teaches social studies at Spencerport High School, received one of this year's awards for excellence in high school teaching from the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development at the University of Rochester.

Tige Noni of Brockport, who teaches science at Kendall Junior-Senior High School, received one of this year's awards for excellence in high school teaching from the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development at the University of Rochester.

William Coe of Hamlin, who teaches mathematics at Greece Arcadia High School, received one of this year's awards for excellence in high school teaching from the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development at the University of Rochester.

Karl Biedlingmaier of Holley, who teaches science at Churchville-Chili Senior High School, received one of this year's awards for excellence in high school teaching from the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development at the University of Rochester.

The Warner School Awards for Excellence in High School Teaching are given to teachers whose practices reflect the attributes needed to improve the education system: They are student-centered, use innovative teaching techniques, believe that all children can learn and do learn in unique ways, and are themselves lifelong learners. Their schools, usually through processes that involve students, select awardees.
