Rangers in final for second year

The Spencerport Rangers reached the Section Five Class A softball final for the second season in a row and second time in the school's history, but dropped a 2-0 decision to Fairport in the title game June 2 at SUNY Brockport.

The Red Raiders scored the only runs of the game in the fourth inning with back-to-back two-out singles sandwiched around a throwing error.

Spencerport scratched out four singles in the game off Fairport pitcher Sam Carr. Melissa D'Agostino had a single in the first inning, Kyra Tobin had her single hit baserunner Marisa Neri in the leg for an out in the second, Missy Eldridge led off the fourth with a single and Kelly Schweikert legged out an infield single in the sixth. The Rangers only managed to get two runners in scoring position during the game.

Senior Meghan Gollaher, pitching her final game for the Rangers, gave up just four hits while striking out three. Other seniors seeing their last high school action for Spencerport were Nicole Ricciuto, Neri, Melissa Watson, Chrissy Jackson and Tobin.

The Rangers finished the campaign with an 18-6 record.
