Hartwick College sophomore, Brandon M. Arva, of Spencerport, son of Bruce H. Arva and the late Pamela M. Arva, has been awarded the Andrew B. Saxton Undergraduate Fellowship in Music at Hartwick.

Arva is majoring in Music Education. At Hartwick, he has participated in Music Educators National Conference, National Anthem Singers, and Phi Mu Alpha.


Caitlin T. McCloskey of Spencerport, earned a bachelor of arts degree in public relations as Susquehanna University closed its 145th academic year with annual commencement exercises on Sunday, May 11. McCloskey is the daughter of Charles and Cynthia McCloskey.

McCloskey's activities at Susquehanna included SU Neighborhood Council, member of SU Choir and Senior Friends.


Andrew Meyers, son of Gregg and Renee Meyers, Churchville, was named to the dean's list for the second semester of the 2002-03 school year. To be named to the dean's list a student must have a minimum 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.


Nicole Graf of Brockport has graduated magna cum laude from Cornell University with a degree in mechanical engineering. She also attended Australia's Sydney University for six months in her junior year.

Graf will stay on at Cornell over the summer to continue biomechanical research that she has done throughout her senior year. In the fall she will leave for Sacramento, California, to serve in Americorps.


Katie E. Sime, a 2003 graduate of the University of Dayton, has earned a bachelor of science degree in sport management. She was the recipient of the Thomas J. Frericks Award of Excellence as the outstanding senior in sports management. Sime was named to the dean's list for the spring semester.

Sime has accepted a graduate assistantship at the University of Louisville where she will earn her master of science degree.

She is the daughter of Dave and Kathy Sime of Brockport.


Rob Stevens, of Brockport, a senior at Grove City College, was honored with the induction into the Alpha Theta Mu chapter of Mortar Board during Parents' Weekend '03, May 2-4. Mortar Board is the national senior honorary on campus. Annually junior men and women with high scholastic achievement and who have contributed outstanding leadership and service to the college are tapped for membership.


Brian Wallace, of Spencerport, a senior at Grove City College, was honored with the Bechtell Award during Parents' Weekend '03, May 2-4. Skill in independent research in the biological and physical sciences is recognized and encouraged with this annual award.


Amy Knight, of Spencerport, a junior at Grove City College, was honored with the James D. Thorne Education Award during Parents' Weekend '03, May 2-4. This award is presented by Fellowship of Christian Educators to recognize future student teachers with outstanding achievements in education and Christian service.


Evan Guerin, of Hilton, has been named to the president's list for spring 2003 semester at Onondaga Community College, in Syracuse. Students are selected for the list by maintaining a G.P.A. of 3.70 or higher. He is studying Electronic Media Communications.


Bernard S. Valento has been chosen to become SUNY College at Brockport's new director of undergraduate admissions. His responsibilities cover a wide variety of roles, including coordinating all aspects of undergraduate admissions at SUNY Brockport. Valento has nearly 15 years in college admissions, the last five of which have been at SUNY Brockport. His previous position at the college was acting director of undergraduate admissions.

Valento graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in November 1996, where he received a master of science degree in career and human resource development. He also holds a bachelor of arts in organizational resource management from Mercyhurst College.


Christopher W. McKnight of Spencerport was named to the winter 2003 dean's list at the University of Dayton.


Stephan J. Vigliotti Jr., son of Stephan and Lorelei Vigliotti (Spencerport class of 1984), is the valedictorian for the General Brown Central School District, located in Dexter, NY. He posted a four year GPA of 97.7 percent. He has earned a number of academic awards to include National Latin Exam Silver Medalist, Bausch and Lomb Math/Science Award, and North Country Foundation Scholarship Recipient.

In addition to his academic achievements, he earned a number of extracurricular awards to include All North Football Team selection, Frontier League Wrestling Champion, Whiz Quiz Team Captain, and Student Counsel Officer.

Vigliotti will be attending the University at Buffalo in the fall as a member of the honors program. He will be majoring in the field of medicine/pharmacy.


Kristin Hill, of Chili, has received a bachelor's degree in chemistry at Roberts Wesleyan College during a ceremony May 17. Hill, a 2000 graduate from Churchville-Chili High School, is enrolled at Wilkes University in the Doctorate of Pharmacy Program.


Patrick E. Reynell of Spencerport accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars and will be honored during a campus ceremony this fall at Temple University.

The Society was established on the principle that with scholarship comes a responsibility to develop leadership and a duty to perform service. First and second year undergraduate students who excel academically are considered.


Area students at the University at Buffalo recently were inducted into the Omicron Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa honorary society. Students selected to be members must be seniors graduating in a liberal arts degree program or one of a small number of juniors. They must have a grade-point average of 3.75 or higher with 85 credit hours completed, or 3.50 or higher with 100 credit hours completed.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Andrew D. Haight has arrived for duty at Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter, South Carolina.

Haight, a weather apprentice, is assigned to the 28th Operational Weather Squadron.

His parents are Gregory and Anne M. Haight of Canal Road, Spencerport. He is a 2001 graduate of Brockport High School.


Patrick Hastings of Nothnagle Realtors has been presented the #1 Sales Agent May 2003 award in the Chili-Ogden Office. His sales for the month were $2,050,530. This is his personal record high for monthly production.

In his 25-year career with Nothnagle, Hastings has received several awards including the Salesmaster Gold award from the Greater Rochester Association of Realtors every year since 1998, given for having closed 60 or more transactions in a 12 month period; and the Zenith Award presented by the Women's Council of Realtors. He was the 2002 recipient of Nothnagle's Top Agent in the Chili-Ogden office, an award he also earned in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. Hastings earned the Top 25 Club Award for 2002, presented to Nothnagle's 25 most successful realtors, out of a company of over 500 agents.

Hastings served as manager of one of Nothnagle's local offices for five years, served on the board of directors for the Greater Rochester Association of Realtors and is a notary public.

The Churchville resident has been licensed since 1978.
