Horseback ride planned for Genesee Valley Greenway

The Friends of the Genesee Valley Greenway will be holding their annual Greenway Horseback Ride on Sunday, June 22. Riders will meet at 10 a.m. at the Chandler Road trail head (located off Route 63 in the Town of York between Geneseo and Piffard). Parking for trailers will be located in the field adjacent to the trail.

This is the fifth year for this event which attracts riders of all ages as well as members of the Livingston County Sheriff's Office Mounted Patrol.

The purpose of the ride is to promote horseback riding on the Genesee Valley Greenway among the many horse owners in the area. According to organizer Ron Cicoria, "It'll be a slow, scenic ride and a good time to share riding and talk horses. All breeds of horses are welcome." The ride will last about two hours. The route will follow the Greenway from Chandler Road north, providing views of the surrounding woods and farm fields as well as the Genesee River.

Afterward, those interested are invited to meet at noon for Sunday brunch at the nearby Yard of Ale Canal House Inn, a c.1840 original Genesee Valley Canal Inn, located adjacent to the Greenway in Piffard.
