Brockport Community Museum in planning stages

The proposed Brockport Community Museum is the recipient of a $2,450 "Get Set" grant from the New York State Council of the Arts, according to Bill Andrews, president of the museum's board of trustees. The grant will pay for the services of Dr. Christopher S. Clarke to assist the board in strategic planning.

Dr. Clarke is a Rochester museum consultant and past president of the Landmark Society of Western New York. Also, he was an historian at the Strong Museum, 1990-97, and has been a consultant to museums and historical societies. Clarke will work with the board and Ben Kendig, a Rochester historic preservation developer, to form plans to convert the buildings at 60-70 Clinton Street into a local history museum. The museum has a provisional charter, issued by the New York State Board of Regents in December 2002.

The "Get Set" grants are part of a series of grants offered to help museums and historical societies strengthen and develop their institutions and work with their communities. They are administered by the Upstate History Alliance and are designed to enable such organizations to get professional help in improving their institutions.
