Celebration set for July 4 in Greece

The second annual Sport of America Independence Day Celebration will be held at Grace and Truth SportsPark, 373 North Greece Road, with the support of local Greece businesses. Over 20 businesses are partnering with the SportsPark to put on the free community event on July 4, with Ray Helfrich of Doan Family of Dealerships claiming the naming sponsorship and providing the funds for Young Explosives to do a fireworks display.

The SportsPark will open at 3 p.m. A family game area will feature inflatables, clowns and face painting; Doug Miller (Rochester Rhinos) will offer free soccer tips; while at Joshua's Paintball Jungle, a target range will be set up and prizes will be awarded in several age categories. Live music begins at 3 p.m. provided by the Southern Tier All-Star Jazz Band. Preceding the fireworks, Denver & the Mile High Orchestra, who played at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City and is scheduled to travel to Greece for the 2004 Olympics, will perform. The fireworks show begins at about 10 p.m.

Individuals are invited to bring their own picnic, or can purchase low-priced concessions (all items are 50¢). No cooking or grilling will be allowed. Seating must also be provided.

The Grace and Truth SportsPark is a tobacco-free, alcohol-free, drug-free and pet-free facility.
