EPA and DEC assess former Kleen Brite Facilities

Representatives of the Environmental Protection Agency and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation are conducing site assessments at the abandoned former Kleen Brite Laboratories facilities at 200 State Street and 100 Fair Street in the village of Brockport. They will determine what, if any, hazards may exist due to manufacturing wastes and other chemicals, some unidentified, that have been left on the sites. The appropriate officials with the EPA and DEC will make that determination.

Questions regarding the types of waste and chemicals found on the site, any potential hazard they may present, and remediation measures that may be necessary, should be directed to EPA or DEC officials on site. Village representatives defer to the EPA and DEC on all such matters.

Village personnel and authorized representatives are providing assistance to EPA and DEC officials as requested and where appropriate.

Additionally, the Village of Brockport DPW is arranging for independent contractors to bid on property maintenance services for the grounds surrounding the sites, including the clearing of debris and mowing of lawns at the abandoned facilities on Fair Street and State Street. The owner of the abandoned buildings will be billed by the village for the cost of those services.
