Ryans honored
with Rotary award

Debbie and Bob Ryan of Ryan's Big M in Brockport were the recipients of a Community Citizen for 2003-2004 award from the Brockport Rotary Club. Outgoing president Norm Knight (above left) along with incoming president Pamela Young are shown with the Ryans and their plaque. Brockport Rotary, part of Rotary International, is a service club dedicated to "service above self." The club members decided to resurrect and redesign an award that was given years ago for service on the part of a community person. In this case it was a joint presentation based upon the Ryans well known penchant for lending their store and a helping hand to a large number and variety of individuals, groups and charities. Whether it is providing a location for Salvation Amy bell ringing, selling Girl Scout cookies or a flu clinic, the Ryans welcome many. They have long supported numerous youth sports teams. Their support of several organizations such as BISCO's Arts Festival and Rotary's Ziti Dinner via reduced prices or outright gifts of food have also been greatly appreciated. However, this is a partial list of ways that the good neighbor Ryans graciously help make Brockport a better place in which to live, according to Rotary representatives.
