Chili to receive sidewalk grant

The Town of Chili has received notice of approval for an application of a $50,000 grant to extend sidewalks. The grant is from the Community Development Block Grant Pedestrian Access Program. This will further extend sidewalks on Chili Avenue westerly to Beaver Road and then easterly to the Kimberly Condominiums. The project will allow for easier access to Town Hall, the Library, and the Chili Center business district, according to town officials.

The town first applied for the grant last February and anticipates the project to begin after August 1. The town has looked for ways to have pedestrian walkways constructed from the time when Chili Avenue was reconstructed in 1990. Since that time, the town has worked to extend sidewalks along Chili Avenue and Old Chili-Scottsville Road. Developers of College Greene included sidewalks in that subdivision as they have in the Park Place subdivision. The town was previously successful in receiving a grant to replace and extend sidewalks in North Chili.
