Competitors invited for several
categories at Monroe County Fair

The Monroe County Fair Association will hold traditional fair competitions at the 2003 Monroe County Fair, July 23-27. Many departments and categories are open to all ages and include quilting, sewing, embroidery, crafts, painting and drawing, photography, ceramics, woodworking, weaving, basketry, knitting, macramé and many others. There are also classes for toys and dolls, foods and gardening. Entry is free for youth classes and nominal for adult classes. Prizes include ribbons, rosettes and money.

To receive entry information, call the Fair Office at 585-334-4000 and ask for the Exhibitors' Handbook to be mailed or check the website www.mcfair.com for an on-line Exhibitors' Handbook and entry form. Entry items can be brought to the fairgrounds on Saturday, July 19 between 1 and 4 p.m. Judging will take place on Sunday, July 20. Exhibits will remain on display for the duration of the fair and can be picked up on July 28.

The Monroe County Fair will hold a pie baking contest on Sunday, July 27 at 12:30 p.m. as one of the Monroe County Fair's Home Arts competitions. Pies may be apple, cherry or sweet potato. They must be made from scratch and require no refrigeration. Criteria for judging will be on the flakiness of the crust, the flavor and the exterior appearance.

Pies must be brought to the fairgrounds between 11 a.m. and noon on July 27. There will be free admission to the fair with each pie entered for judging (one person per pie). Ribbons and $20 will be awarded for the best pie in each of the three categories.
