Hilton graduate receives scholarship

The third annual Greece Community Scholarship award has been awarded to Cynthia Burrows, a June graduate of Hilton High School. The scholarship fund was established in 2000 to recognize senior high students who are Greece residents, and who are diligent in academic studies, and have significant participation in school and community activities.

This award is $500. As the fund grows through additional contributions and earnings, more awards will be made in future years. The initial "seed" money, $12,500, was contributed three years ago by Greece Summer Festival, Inc., the community organization that planned and ran the annual festival from 1991 through 2001. The new name of this community organization is Greece Community Partners, Inc. The fund is administered by the Rochester Area Community Foundation. Donations to this fund are welcome. Cynthia Burrows plans on attending George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia. She will major in music education in preparation for teaching music, most likely at the high school level. In high school, Burrows ranked fifth of 363 - which earned her membership in the National Honor Society. She was involved in numerous school and community activities; some are clarinet section leader in the Hilton Crimson Cadets Marching Band, and Girl Scouts (Silver Award and Gold Award). Her academic awards include Academic Merit 1999 to present, Principal's Award 2000-02, American Chemical Society's Achievement 2001, Senator Mariarz's Academic Excellence 2002 and Academic Excellence from the President's Education Awards Program 2002.
