SUNY Oswego has awarded merit scholarships to more than 500 incoming, students, including John B. Oster of Black Tern Terrace, Hilton, a $2,000 Merit Award from SUNY Oswego. The award recognizes past academic achievement and potential for success.

Oster has reserved a place in the incoming freshman class for the fall semester.


Marisa Clark, 16, of Green Lane, Hilton, a junior at Hilton High School, was presented the Underclassman Outstanding Female Athlete Award 2002-2003 given each year for athletic excellence and achievement, as voted on by coaches and boosters. The award was presented at the annual High School Athlete Appreciation Awards night on June 2 by Superintendent Dr. John Cooper.

Clark was a First Team All Monroe County Selection for the second consecutive year and an All Greater Rochester Honorable Mention in Women's Soccer as a central midfielder.

The following residents have been awarded academic scholarships from SUNY College at Brockport. Nathaniel Boyd of Holley and Shawn Murray of Spencerport have been named 2003 Presidential Scholars. Presidential Scholars must have a high school average of 93 or higher, rank in the top 20 percent, and have a 1200 or higher SAT or 26 ACT score. The scholarship is valued at $20,000 and provides free room and partial board for up to four years.


Susan J. Pelo, of Churchville, daughter of Edward A. and Carol Marie M. Pelo, has been named to the spring term dean's list at Hartwick College and has graduated from Hartwick with a bachelor of arts degree in political science.

At Hartwick, Pelo has participated in Women's Varsity Swimming and Diving, Student Senate, Student Union, Big Brother/Big Sister Program, Champs and Alpha Omicron Pi.


Syracuse University sophomore Michael Hage of Hollybrook Road, Brockport participated in the "The Art of Living in Mallorca" (Spain) program where students are immersed in the passionate life and culture of the island of Mallorca by exploring its art, literature, history, and gastronomy.

Hage is majoring in finance.


Cynthia Lippa, daughter of Catherine Lippa, Loring Place, Chili has been named to the spring 2003 dean's list at Keuka College in Keuka Park.

Lippa a senior, majors in American Sign Language and psychology.

A Keuka College student must have earned at least a 3.50 grade-point average for each block of at least 12 semester credit hours to be eligible for the dean's list.


Peter Montenaro, son of Peter and Mary Montenaro, Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list at the University of Notre Dame for outstanding scholarship during the spring semester.

The dean's list is comprised of students who have succeeded in maintaining a scholastic average of 3.4 and above during the past semester.

Montenaro, a 2000 graduate of Spencerport High School, is a senior in the university's College of Engineering, majoring in computer science and engineering


Ashley M. Rath of Morton Road in Hamlin has received a merit scholarship from SUNY Oswego. She received a $5,000 dean's scholarship. The award recognizes past academic achievement and potential for success. She is an incoming freshman.


Jared Unterborn, of Walker Lake Ontario Road, Hilton, has been named to the dean's list for the third quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. Unterborn graduated in 2003 with a degree in print management. He is the son of Glen and Pat Unterborn and a 1999 graduate of Hilton High School.


Rachael Pruner, daughter of Amy and Wayne Pruner, of Countyline Road, Holley, has been named to the spring 2003 dean's list at St. John Fisher College.

Pruner, a freshman, is a nursing major.

To be eligible for dean's list at St. John Fisher College, a student must have attained at least a 3.3 grade-point average for the semester.


David Kent of Spencerport was selected to receive honorary award recognition by having his biography published in the 26th Annual Edition of The National Dean's List, 2002/2003. He is also eligible to compete for a $1,000 scholarship from the $50,000 to be awarded this year. The publication recognizes gifted students selected by their deans, comparable faculty members or other educational organizations.


SPC Andrew M. Kirchhoff of the Army National Guard, was recently awarded the Soldier of the Year Award at the camp level. He will attend the regional next month.

Kirchhoff is a sophomore at SUNY Brockport and is working on a criminal psychology degree. His unit was federally activated in January of this year, by order of the president and is currently guarding vital locations around New York state for Homeland Socurity, as part of Operation Noble Eagle.

He is the son of Keith and Mona Kirchhoff of Clarkson and a 2001 Brockport High School graduate.
