NYS Troopers to check security
procedures at Chili Town Hall

Chili Supervisor Steve Hendershott has called upon the New York State Police to conduct a security audit of Chili town facilities. He cited the recent shooting of a New York City Councilman and events nationally since 9-11 as reasons to review safety procedures. In his request to New York State Police Superintendent James McMahon, Hendershott said, "While there have been no instances that have occurred that would jeopardize the security and safety of our staff and residents, we are always conscious of the need to be secure."

Hendershott said the town has taken modest steps to improve security at town facilities on his own initiative. "We have installed a camera in the hallway that is monitored by the receptionist," stated Hendershott. Persons entering Town Hall during normal business hours must also walk past the receptionist. "In addition, a metal detector has been installed in Chili Town Court," Hendershott said.

"An audit by New York State Police would ensure that our facilities are secure and up-to-date on the measures taken to provide a safe place to work and serve our residents," said Hendershott. "It would also reassure our residents and staff that Chili remains a safe place to live and raise a family."

Hendershott said that the town would work with the State Police to implement any recommendations that would improve the safety at town facilities.
