Newsmakers for the week of
August 25, 2003


Kelly Lynn Bliemeister, a Brockport High School graduate and student at the Eastman School of Music, was named to the dean's list for the spring semester. She is a performance major and plays the double bass.

During the summer, Bliemeister has been working with the College Light Opera Company in Falmouth, Cape Cod. Over the course of a ten week period she has been part of a 17-piece orchestra performing nine classic musicals at the Highfield Theatre. She will begin her sophomore year at Eastman this fall.


Karen A. Young graduated from Nazareth Academy in June. A member of the National Honor Society at Nazareth, Young was awarded the Paychex 2003 Scholarship Award. She has also been named a recipient of an Academic Achievement Award at Niagara University where she will major in business.

Young is the daughter of Ronald and Mary Young of Spencerport.


Laura E. Young graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in May, earning a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. She was also named to the dean's list for the spring semester.

Young was inducted into Psi Chi, the national psychology honor society and was awarded a fellowship from the University of Maine's doctoral program in clinical psychology.

During her senior year, she served as President and Captain of the Notre Dame Women's Boxing Club, one of the largest women's boxing programs in the country. Young became a part of Notre Dame boxing history in February, when for the first time in more than 70 years of boxing at Notre Dame, women were allowed to spar in public. Young was one of 12 contenders chosen from among more than 100 members of the women's boxing club to participate in the annual Bengal Bouts. All proceeds from the bouts are donated to the Holy Cross missions in Bangladesh.

Young, a 1999 graduate of Our Lady of Mercy High School, is the daughter of Ronald and Mary Young of Spencerport.


Jonathon Kruger of Hilton was a member of the "Design of the Links at Deer Croft" engineering project team at Valparaiso University. For this project, civil engineering majors worked together on one large project divided into five subsections.

Kruger received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Valpo during May commencement ceremonies. He is the son of Richard and Donna Kruger of Hilton and a graduate of Hilton Central High School.
