Ogden Library plans playing card fundraiser

The Ogden Farmers' Library has begun work on a project that offers an advertising opportunity for local businesses and organizations and will raise funds for the library at the same time.

The library is planning the production of a deck of playing cards that will feature a photograph of a scene in Ogden or Spencerport on one side, and advertising space for local businesses and organizations on the other.

Many local businesses have supported the library generously in the past through donations to various events such as the Library/Kiwanis annual silent auction in 2002 and 2003, the "I Spy Spencerport" project in 2002, or other projects, according to library director Patty Uttaro. Although the library has, and continues to receive, generous support from local government, they are always looking for ways to augment those resources. Money raised through fundraising activities such as this one goes directly into the library's materials and programs budget, which allows us to purchase new items and present programs free of charge. Community residents visited the library nearly 120,000 times in 2002, and borrowed nearly 220,000 items. Clearly, the residents of Ogden and Spencerport use the library, Uttaro said.

Businesses, organizations, and even individuals who wish to support the library through the fundraiser can buy a card for $85. Business logos, designs or text can be placed on the card. Decks of cards will be sold at the library for $5 each beginning in November, and will make perfect "stocking stuffers" for family and friends at holiday time. If you are interested in participating in this unique project or would like more information about it, contact Patty Uttaro at 352-2141 or uttaro@ogdenny.com, or visit Cindy Lott at CDL Printing in the Spencerport Village Plaza to reserve a card.
