Brockport to host 12-hour vigil to commemorate September 11
Those brave men and women who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 will be remembered with a Patriot Day vigil in the Village of Brockport. The vigil will take place on Thursday, September 11 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Firefighter's Memorial Monument located at Station #4 in Brockport. more

Dentist helps Hamlin smile for nearly two decades
When he opened up shop nearly 20 years ago, many of Hamlin's longtime residents thought out loud that Robert A. Lang had bitten off more than he could chew. Hamlinites had grown accustomed to traveling out of town for all of their medical needs. more

Funding released for Brockport's promenade
Mayor Josephine Matela signed an agreement with the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation that secures more than $105,000 in funding for the rehabilitation of the canal side Harvester Park in the Village of Brockport. The announcement was made last week in a press release. more

GE and Black & Decker offer to replace
portion of storm sewer pipe in Brockport

General Electric and Black & Decker (GE/B&D), former owners of the 200 State Street facility in Brockport, have offered to replace a substantial portion of the village's storm sewer pipe downstream of the facility, according to a press release issued by the company. more

New programs for fall at Genesee Country Museum
Visitors to the Genesee Country Village & Museum this fall will witness an 1841 encounter between escaped slave and abolitionist William Wells Brown and a printer sympathetic to his cause in A Slave's Narrative. more

Listeners to Rochester's public radio station WXXI, may recognize Brenda Tremblay of Brockport, not only by her soft, easy to listen to on-air voice, but also for her insightful and superbly produced feature stories about local people and events. Occasionally her mini audio 'documentaries' are picked up by National Public Radio and syndicated nationally by the NPR network. more

Please don't feed the ducks
Ducks and geese are wild animals that can survive with little, or no, help from humans. This was the message passed along by Village of Brockport resident Marian Miller from information she received from the Department of Environmental Conservation's water fowl unit. more

Quilt represents church's 150 years
Members of United Methodist Church of North Chili have created a quilt of 49 blocks depicting people and events of 150 years of church history. The summary of facts and faces in fabric will be the focal point of 100 quilts at North Chili Quilt Show at the church, 2200 Westside Drive at Buffalo Road, September 12 and 13. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The Farmers Market will be on grounds Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. more

Chili Public Library begins Sunday hours in October
Beginning Sunday, October 5, the Chili Public Library will be open Sunday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. through December 21. The library is now open Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., until Memorial Day weekend. more

The Chili Memorial Post 412 VFW Ladies Auxiliary has installed new officers for the 2003 and 2004 season. more

Flag presented to Riga Town Board
At the July 14 Riga Town Board meeting, William Lawson presented Supervisor Tim Rowe and the Town of Riga with an American Flag that was flown by the 328th Expeditionary Aircraft Squadron during a C130 combat mission to Baghdad, Iraq. more

Hilton-Parma Librette Club celebrates 60 years
Librette Book Club of Hilton is celebrating its 60th year. Founded in 1943 by a small group of women interested in sharing their love of reading, Librette Book Club grew quickly to 24 members. more

Veteran's Memorial Pavilion

About 15 people gathered in the World War II Veteran's Memorial Pavilion at the Ferris Goodridge American Legion Post 330 last July. Andrew Decker, 16, organized these people to help bring his Eagle Scout project to completion. more

Registration open for story hours at Parma Public Library
Sign-up has begun at the Parma Library for preschool and Wednesday afternoon story hours. A new story hour for children 1 to 3-years-old will be held on Thursdays (October 2 to 23) from 10:30 to 11 a.m. more

SUNY Brockport local stop on "Save a Life" tour
To raise awareness of the ongoing need for blood donations, the American Red Cross will be rolling its interactive, mobile museum into SUNY College at Brockport for the Save A Life Tour 2003. more

When the sun hits the September 11 Remembrance Walk monument at 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2003 at Monroe Community College's Brighton Campus, it will illuminate two voids in the sculpture, reminding one of the loss of the World Trade Center towers and the thousands of victims who perished in the terrorist attacks two years ago. more

After hanging on for a 2-1 victory over Greece Olympia in the semi-finals, the Spencerport Rangers boy's soccer team defeated Churchville-Chili 3-2 in the championship game to capture the season-opening Hilton Tournament. more

Saints sweep Cadets
After winning a Section Five title last season and returning their entire roster - including MVP Eric Palumbo - from the title team, expectations are high for the Churchville-Chili boy's volleyball team. They did not disappoint with a 25-4, 25-10, 25-20 sweep over Hilton in the season opener for both teams. more
