Picnic tables added to World War II Veteran's Memorial Pavilion

About 15 people gathered in the World War II Veteran's Memorial Pavilion at the Ferris Goodridge American Legion Post 330 last July. Andrew Decker, 16, organized these people to help bring his Eagle Scout project to completion. Decker coordinated the building and staining of eight picnic tables and 16 benches to put in the new memorial pavilion, which was dedicated last November. Decker began working on the project in April, when he found plans for the tables and benches. Decker had to present the plans to his troop, the Legion leaders and the Eagle council before purchasing the project materials, most of which were paid for by the Legion. Decker and his father, Pete, made the legs, braces and other parts, and volunteers helped assemble the tables and benches, then gathered together the next night to stain them and move them into the pavilion. Decker hopes to have his Eagle ceremony sometime this winter.
