Bergen offers municipal electric customers
energy efficient light bulbs

The Village of Bergen, in conjunction with the Independent Energy Efficiency Program, Inc. (IEEP), will offer two Energy Star® labeled compact fluorescent lamps (CFL's) to residential electric customers. The IEEP assists municipal utilities facilitate the installation of energy efficient technologies throughout New York state.

Tracy Jong, administrator, said, "The Village of Bergen creates a win-win situation by working with the IEEP to offer customers energy efficient products like compact fluorescent light bulbs. Energy Efficiency has a positive effect on our environment, reduces our customer's electric costs, and our peak load. The Village of Bergen maintains some of the lowest electric rates in the country and by participating in these programs we are demonstrating our respect for preferential hydroelectric energy that we receive."

These CFL's available to residential customers in Bergen, use about 75 percent less energy than standard light bulbs, will last about 5,000 hours longer, and provide high quality, pleasant lighting, according to a press release. By offering these bulbs to residential consumers, the village hopes to encourage their residential customers to continue to make energy efficient improvements to their homes.

Residential electric customers can receive two Energy Star® Bulbs per electric account by bringing a copy of their Bergen Electric Bill to the Village Office. The lamps will be offered on a first come, first serve basis, and will be available November 24. Contact the village office with questions, 494-1513.
