Lakeside receives electric cars

Two electric vehicles were delivered to Lakeside Health System, gifts from Global Electric Motorcars (GEM), one two passenger and one four passenger. The vehicles will be used for evening security checks of the Lakeside campus, requested staff escorts to their vehicles during security coverage, Wednesdays through Sundays, 11 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. by security and routine ground transportation for facilities maintenance purposes. The vehicles boast a maximum speed of 25 mph and can be used on roadways with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less. There are no exhaust emissions, and they are inexpensive to operate because of low-maintenance batteries and an onboard charger that plugs into any 110-volt outlet. GEM's are also equipped with safety features including front wheel drive, four-wheel hydraulic brakes, safety glass windshield with wiper and three point-anchored seatbelts. Standard features include headlights, high mounted brake lights and turn signals.
