Holley board appoints new mayor
who then appoints trustee

William Quaranto was chosen by several trustees to serve as the Village of Holley's new mayor. Former Mayor Dan Schiavone tendered his resignation on Tuesday, September 9 prompting the remaining trustees to appoint Quaranto to the position on September 11.

His first order of businesses as mayor was to appoint a new trustee, Skip Carpenter, a former mayor and trustee, who lost an election bid in March by one vote.

"My first order of business is to restore the image of the village," he said. "We've had some bad things happen to us in the past few years and it's time to turn things around."

While Quaranto said he acknowledges that there were some problems during Schiavone's term as mayor, he did praise him for some of the work he had done. "I want to continue on with some of the projects that Dan (Schiavone) started ... there were some good things under Dan's term."

Both the position of mayor and Quaranto's former trustee seat will be up for grabs in March 2004 election and Quaranto said at this point he isn't certain which position he will seek. "I'm definitely going to run for one of them."

Quaranto is a driver and manager with PDS Construction in Hamlin.

When asked about the road work taking place in the village, the new mayor said that the work on the Public Square should be wrapped up in the next couple of weeks. 'Keeler Construction has done a great job here," he said. "After finishing the Square they will be taking a break for winter and will finish up the two ends of Route 31, east and west of the village, next spring."

Quaranto said that once the road work is complete it will be something in which village residents can take pride. "It's been difficult for the business owners but once this is done and the Square is put back together this project should help generate revenue for them and interest in tourists coming to visit."

.Antique style lighting fixtures and landscaping will round out the work on the Square.
