Funding announced for
new senior housing project in Brockport

A grant of $185,342 has been awarded to the Brockport BDC Limited Monroe Partnership for 32 new senior housing units in Monroe County. The Village Center will provide affordable housing for senior citizens, age 62 and over, handicapped or disabled, that will be easy walking distance to the center of Brockport, according to Assemblyman Bill Reilich who made the announcement.

"I am pleased to see deserving organizations such as Brockport BDC Limited Monroe Partnership awarded money for these crucial housing facilities," Reilich said. "Because of the unique partnership between federal, state and local housing developers, seniors in our region can now enjoy the higher standard of living they deserve. I congratulate Governor George Pataki for his commitment to the seniors who built our communities."

Bruce Levin, developer for the Belmont Development Corporation located in Buffalo, worked on behalf of the Brockport Partnership's 32-unit senior Village Center. He said it is to be the second such project in the village for senior citizens. Park Place, built about five years ago, serves the same population, and has a lengthy waiting list. This resulted in the initiation of the Village Center project, according to Reilich.

Village Center is a partnership between the state and federal government, jointly funded by the NYS Housing Trust Fund Corporation and the USDA Rural Development. The total development cost for the Village Center project is just over three million dollars. New York state is contributing $1.2 million, while the federal government will contribute $550,000. The balance of the project, roughly about $1.4 million, will be paid by investors who will receive $185,342 in tax credits annually.

Sixteen housing projects throughout Genesee, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne and Yates counties were awarded more than $12.3 million in state aid that will result in more than $27.5 million in affordable housing investments. These funds will provide housing opportunities to working families, seniors and individuals with special needs.
