Bees boys #2 in state

Byron-Bergen lost in the state boy's soccer finals last season, but has picked right up where they left off with a 3-0 shutout over rival Holley to improve their record this season to 8-0-1.

After a scoreless first half in which Holley had the better opportunities to score including a direct kick from just above the box, the Bees flexed their offensive muscles in the second half.

In the 58th minute, Matt Radley took a throw-in in the right corner, moved around a defender and found Chad Harter who drilled it into the lower right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead. Just two minutes later, Rian Morgan passed to Seth Kent who made a turn move at the top of the box and found the lower left corner for a 2-0 B-B lead.

The Bees capped their scoring in the 65th minute when Billy Scheider shot the ball into the upper corner inside the far post from long distance after a pass from Morgan.

The Hawks then tried to turn up their own offensive game as Derrick Jedamski shot the ball over the crossbar and Jesse Bopp had his shot tipped over the crossbar late in the game.

Robbie Fuller picked up his sixth shutout of the season for Byron-Bergen in the win. Coach Will Fitzpatrick talked about the Bees coming alive in the second half. "We had to come out and play our game and not get caught up so much in their physical style. We just got back to a simple game in the second half, it's just that, being ranked second in the state, everybody's gunning for us."
