Have a hat or uniform with a history?

The Exhibit Committee of the Gates Historical Society is looking forward to the next exhibit at the Hinchey Homestead. The first fall exhibit will showcase the many hats that were inventoried when the house was purchased in 2002. Members are also hoping to include the community by creating a display of local hats with a history.

The Gates Historical Society already has two military uniform reproductions, those of General Horatio Gates of Revolutionary War fame and Colonel Patrick O'Rourke of the Civil War, in their inventory.

The Exhibit Committee is looking for uniforms, hats, photos, memorabilia and stories from before 1953, that can be loaned for a short period of time for this exhibit. Anyone who has a hat or a uniform or other military equipment can call Mary Jean at 426-0842 to arrange a convenient drop off time to share your keepsake and tell their story.
