Christmas at the Lighthouse October 12

This year marks the eighth annual "Christmas at the Lighthouse" event sponsored by the Friends of Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse. On Sunday, October 12 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse will be decorated for Christmas by area florists and open to the public for free tours.

Bill Briggs of Lakeside Floral and Antique Gallery, in Rochester, will decorate the tower of the Lighthouse. Trudy Sworts of Floristry by Trudy in Medina will display her Christmas creations in the kitchen, dining room and meeting room. Shirley Taylor of the Pallister House Florists in Newfane and Olcott will decorate the fireplace room.

This year's entertainment will be Elizabeth Baker, a harpist. She will be performing Christmas carols along with a variety of music from noon to 4 p.m.

Hall's Apple Farm of Lockport has donated the fresh sweet apple cider that will be offered with doughnuts and members' homemade cookies for refreshments.

A Chinese Auction is also new this year.

Christmas at the Lighthouse will be a celebration of the season to come, and a showcase of the progress that has been made this year. Visitors can join in the restoration efforts by "Adopting A Stone." All proceeds from the sale of lighthouse souvenirs and refreshments will be used in the restoration of Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse.

Reach the lighthouse by following signs on Route 18 directing visitors to Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse at Golden Hill State Park on Lower Lake Road, Barker.
