St. John the Evangelist School celebrates Johnny Appleseed Day

St. John the Evangelist School in Greece celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day on Friday, September 26, with a variety of educational and fun activities. The whole school from Pre-K through grade 6 gathered for an assembly with the guest of honor, Johnny Appleseed. The children sang songs about apples, listened to a story about John Chapman, aka Johnny Appleseed and questioned him about his life. Following the assembly, Johnny Appleseed visited each classroom to hand each child an apple. The children participated in activities involving apples throughout the day. The sixth graders made their own individual apple pies which were baked, cooled, and packaged for them to take home. The other classes made caramel apples, sliced apples for dipping treats, made applesauce and planted apple seeds. All lessons throughout the day were apple themed. Parents and volunteers helped make this a memorable day for the students. Above, Johnny Appleseed, played by Daniel DeConinck, hands apples to his daughters, Amanda and Nicole, who attend the Pre-K program at St. John the Evangelist School in Greece.
