Josh Poole of Hilton toured with the Baldwin-Wallace College Choir in October. Under the direction of Stuart Raleigh, the College Choir performed in the Chicago area, at a church in Evanston and at Naperville North High School.


Ithaca College has awarded Fred L. Emerson Foundation scholarships to outstanding students for the 2003-04 academic year. Selection was based on a combination of level of need, superior academic performance and significant contributions to the extracurricular life of the college.

The Fred L. Emerson Foundation, which sponsors the scholarships, has been a significant philanthropic force throughout New York state. The foundation has funded hospitals and health-related programs, arts organizations, community service agencies, churches, historical societies and need-based college and university scholarships.

Among area scholarship recipients are:

  • Frank Olivieri, Redman Road, Brockport, a Leisure Services major and a graduate of Aquinas Institute.
  • Brandon Steinorth, Rolling Meadow Drive, Hilton, a social studies major and a graduate of Hilton Central School.
  • Krystal Kaminski, Chestnut Ridge Road, Rochester, a biology major and a graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.
  • Samantha Powley, Hutchings Road, Rochester, an art major and a graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.
  • Melissa Scroger, Ogden Parma Townline Road, Spencerport, an athletic training major and a graduate of Spencerport High School.
  • Justin Talbott, Adams Trail, Spencerport, no major declared, a graduate of Brockport High School.

Army PV2. Suzanne A. Hicks was deployed to Iraq on September 17 to join the 64th Military Police Company, 720th Military Police Battalion, station in Kirkuk.

PV2. Hicks graduated from basic training and Military Police School at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri on April 11. She has been stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Hicks is a 1997 graduate of Spencerport High School. She is the daughter of Tom and Shari Hicks.


Army Reserve Pvt. Jacob C. Ebel has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina.

He is the son of John Ebel of Lake Road E., Hamlin.
