Pro Wal-Mart group forms in Brockport

A group of Brockport residents have gotten together and will form a new group in support of the Wal-Mart Supercenter proposal on Route 31.

The group, calling itself "Brockport Residents Encouraging Commerce" (BREC) will promote the Wal-Mart application as it goes through the approval process. (They prepared a press release printed here).

John and Mary Lou Egan, two supporters who are helping form the group, feel Wal-Mart's new store is the right fit for Brockport. "While there is some neighborhood opposition, this project is on properly zoned land. Wal-Mart has the right to build there, and will put forward a plan that will enhance the community," stated John Egan.

Anthony and Linda Perry of Brockport also agree. "The jobs alone, an additional 260, along with construction jobs and tax revenue make this a 'win-win' for Brockport. The Town of Sweden will also be helped by a new tenant in the existing building, bringing in more jobs and revenue," stated Linda Perry.

Jen Johnson of Brockport likes the fact that Wal-Mart gives back to the community. "They donate over $50,000 a year to the community, that to me says they want to be a part of our area, and are willing to help out," Johnson stated.

Paula Spaulding, another supporter, is asking those supporters in Brockport to make their voice heard. "No proposal should be taken for granted, and we hope those that feel this is good for the area will speak out," added Spaulding.
