Still time to get a flu shot

There are numerous clinics throughout Monroe County that will be providing the flu shot. Unlike previous years when only high-risk groups could get the shot, people of all ages are encouraged to get the vaccine this year. It is recommended that people age 65 and older get the flu shot, as well as people with chronic health conditions such as kidney disease, HIV, cancer and diabetes. Health care workers and caregivers as well as women who will be at least three months pregnant during the flu season should also get the vaccine.

For information about the flu vaccine in Monroe County, log on to the website at www.monroecounty.gov. The shots are covered by most health insurances. Without health insurance, the cost is usually about $20. Call 234-9600 to hear one to two weeks of clinic information by phone.

In Genesee County, there will be a charge of $18 for the shot at the Genesee County Health Department clinics. Medicare card holders are covered at no cost. Pneumonia vaccines will be available for $25, and Tetanus-Diptheria vaccines are $20.
