Gift Angel program brings books to children

Lift Bridge Book Shop's Gift Angel program offers an opportunity for area residents to help provide gift books at the holiday season for needy families in the Brockport-Clarkson-Hamlin area. From now until December 24, residents can participate at Lift Bridge Book Shop, 45 Main Street, Brockport. The outreach effort is now in its ninth year.

Customers are invited to add $1 to their purchases during Children's Book Week in November and through December 24. The monies collected are used to buy books at a discount for the Brockport and Hamlin Toy Shelves. Local children's service groups such as The Girl Scouts and Student Councils help select the books. Many of these groups also collect monies to buy books for needy children and they are also given a discount for their purchases. This program has even started to attract corporate donations.

The goal is to collect enough dollars to provide every needy child in the area with a book for the holidays. To participate, visit the shop during the holiday season and add $1 to any purchase. Residents can also make a donation over the phone with a credit card.
