FASNY essay contest open to students Grades 5-8

Fifth through eighth graders are invited to participate in The Fireman's Association of the State of New York's (FASNY) 10th Annual Fire Prevention Essay Contest.

Students who enter the contest are required to discuss causes, methods and techniques to prevent or eliminate fire and burns and the importance of correct fire safety and how injuries, death and loss of property may be prevented.

All essays must consist of one typewritten, double-spaced page or two neatly handwritten, double-spaced pages. Essays should be identified on the back with the student's name and grade, the teacher's name, and the school name, address, county, telephone number and e-mail address.

First place winners will receive $100 and a plaque from FASNY. Second- and third-place winners will receive a plaque.

Essays must be postmarked on or before December 26 and mailed to: June L. Gunza, P.O. Box 205, Highland Falls, NY 10928-0205. Notification of winning entries will be made by April 15, 2004.
