Spencerport student performs in state conference band

Chris Russell, a senior at Spencerport High School, has been selected to perform in the Conference All-State Symphonic Band at this year's New York State School Music Association Winter Conference in Rochester. Russell, a tenor saxophonist, also was selected as an alternate in the All-State Jazz Ensemble. Selection to these ensembles is an honor bestowed to fewer than five tenor saxophonists, who are chosen from among thousands of students who audition statewide in spring festivals to be chosen for these elite ensembles.

As an accomplished saxophonist, Russell participated in four county and state solo festivals last year, achieving a perfect 100% on all four solos.

"I can say with pride that in my 15 years in public education I have never had a student achieve this goal," said John Viavattine, Director of Bands. "I am proud and privileged to work with a student with such a high calibre of talent and character."
