SUNY Brockport student
receives student production award

SUNY College at Brockport junior Joel Neden received the award for Best News Reporting in the 2003 National Student Production Awards sponsored by the Collegiate Broadcasters, Inc. Neden's news piece, which was for SUNY Brockport's student-run radio station WBSU 89.1 FM The Point, was named "New York Anti-War Rally."

This is the ninth time in 16 years that 89.1FM The Point has won a state or national award. "This national award again demonstrates that the Point is one of the better radio stations in the nation. We've had a steady stream of quality students doing some amazing things for many years, and Joel is the latest to exhibit the skills each is able to learn while working here," said Warren Kozireski, professor and general manager of the radio station. In the spring, Neden received the award for "Best Newscast" from the Broadcast Educator's Association. "This award is very personal because I heard the selections I was up against, and they were very good. It means a lot to me that a national organization, of such high quality, thought my work was worthy of mention," said Neden, who is pursuing a major in English at SUNY Brockport.
