Blue Devils' Parrino commits to LeMoyne

Brockport senior shortstop Andy Parrino has officially committed to play Division I baseball at LeMoyne College in Syracuse for the 2004-05 campaign. After considering St. John's, West Virginia and Old Dominion among other schools, the third-team All-New York State selection decided to stay close to home.

"I chose LeMoyne because I felt it was a good fit for me," commented Parrino. "If I'm not able to play baseball, I could still see myself being successful. Also, they gave me an offer that I was happy with, not only for my athletic ability, but for my hard work throughout my high school career."

The Dolphins finished last season 33-17 and have six alumni currently playing with professional organizations, including pitcher Scott Cassidy of Toronto. Now retired former pro alum also includes pitchers Tom Browning and Jim Deshaies.

"My long term goals with baseball are to start and to prove to my college coach that I can be an everyday player at the Division I level. Then someday I hope to be drafted and make playing baseball my professional career."

Parrino finished last season with a .515 batting average and was named co-Player-of-the-Year for the Class AA Section Five champion Blue Devils. He also was part of two consecutive gold medal winning Western teams at the Empire State Games.
