Toy Shelf reps
collect donation

Brockport Toy Shelf Representatives Charlene Veltz (l) and Ruthann Tryka (c) hold a $450 check presented by President Pam Young (r) of Brockport Rotary. During Christmas 2002, the volunteer "personal shoppers," (using individual appointments), provided 564 children from 172 families with a more joyous Christmas. Flyers go out to all children in the Brockport Central School District. Each child birth to age 17 receives two toys and/or other desirable gifts such as clothing along with stocking stuffers and caps and mittens. The Toy Shelf began ten years ago when a foster mother realized her 12-year old child had never had a Christmas present. Currently the organization also solicits monetary donations to purchase items not supplied by donation. They can never have too much money as the kind of items most prized by older children and teenagers are more expensive than some of the traditional items for young children. Items donated generally are most appropriate for the younger children. Send donations to Brockport Toy Shelf at 12 Glendale Road, Brockport, NY 14420. Call 637-7733 or 637-3602 for item pick up. Good used items such as bicycles are also welcome.
