Newsmakers for the week of
December 29, 2003


The following residents have been awarded academic scholarships from SUNY College at Brockport: Stacey Shirley of Rochester (14626); Rachelle Walker of Hilton; Amber Boyer of Albion; and Julie Flynn of Churchville have been named 2004 Faculty Scholars. This award for transfer students requires a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.75 and junior status. The scholarship is valued at $1,000.


Among area residents who were candidates for December 2003 degrees from the State University of New York at Fredonia are: Rory Thomas John Coyne, Brockport, a bachelor of fine arts degree in visual arts, painting; Jason Lenard Hilbert, Hilton, a bachelor of arts degree in English; Katherine Lindsay Wackerman, Hilton, a bachelor of science degree in business administration-marketing; Maria Andre Pelow, Rochester, a bachelor of science in coputer/information sciences; Aaron Peter Montrois, Spencerport, a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy; Jamie Leigh Neumann, Spencerport, bachelor of arts degree in visual arts, photography.


Navy Seaman Apprentice Heather M. Paye, daughter of Teresa J. Stewart of Hamlin, and Fred R. Paye of Hamlin, reported for duty aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Higgins, homeported in San Diego, California.
Paye is a 2002 graduate of Brockport High School and joined the Navy in August 2002.


Marine Corps Pvt. Dawson K. Hargett, a 2003 graduate of Brockport High School, completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.
