Churchville-Chili students win fire safety essay contest

Two Churchville-Chili students won first place in their age group for the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen's Association (MCVFA) Fire Safety essay contest.

Brittney Johnson, a 7th grader at Churchville-Chili Junior High School, and Amanda Fodge, a 6th grader at Churchville-Chili Intermediate School, are the winners. Each student received a plaque, a $100 cash award. A trophy from the MCVFA will be on display at each school for the 2003-2004 school year.

Their essays were selected from over 2,000 entries. Students from schools throughout Monroe County entered the contest. Amanda is a repeat winner; she won the 2002-2003 MCVFA Fire Safety essay contest.

The essays will advance to the next round of competition with the Northern New York Volunteer Firemen's Association. The results of this competition will be announced in April 2004.
