Churchville-Chili students win local Peace Poster contest

Two Churchville-Chili students won first place in a local poster competition sponsored by the Churchville Lions Club. MacKenzi Martin, a sixth grader at C-C Intermediate School and Michael Melito, a seventh grader at C-C Junior High School are the winners.

Their posters are among more than 325,000 entries submitted worldwide in the 16th annual Lions International Peace Poster contest. The theme of this contest was world peace.

First, second and third place winners received $50 U.S. Savings Bonds and certificates of achievement. Fourth and fifth place winners received $10 gift certificates and certificates of achievement. Second through fifth place winners at the Intermediate School are in order: Stephanie Brown, Julia Poplavskiy, Christina Green and Emily Drzewiecki. Second through fifth place winners at the Junior High School are in order: Benjamin Rybolt, Jonathan Quintela, Eric Embling and Megan Specksgoor.

Churchville Lion and 20 E-1 Vice District Governor Peter Neidrauer presented the awards to intermediate and junior high school students.

The posters advance to round two of area competition and three more rounds of international competition. The winners will be announced late January.
