Hilton High School alumnus presents classical guitar concert for community

Hilton High School alumnus, James Marron '82, will present a free community concert, "Six Poems for the Angels" on Thursday, January 8, at 7 p.m. at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 158 East Avenue, Hilton. The community is invited to attend this special concert of classical guitar music featuring music from Marron's new CD of the same title.

An accomplished classical guitarist and composer, Marron is on the faculty of the University of Akron and Ashland University of Akron, Ohio. "Six Poems for the Angels" was released last fall and includes works from North and South American composers as well as original music by Marron. It follows the 1998 release of "Spring Rising," a compilation of music for the solo guitar noted by critics for "impressively broad-ranging … from spicily atonal to lush and lyrical."

A graduate of Manhattan School of Music, he also holds master's degrees in music theory/composition and guitar performance from the University of Akron. His performances have taken him from Germany to Ireland and throughout the U.S. Marron has also composed modern dance music which has been performed in New York and Toronto. Radio appearances include "Live at Hochstein" through WXXI 91.5 FM and WCLV in Cleveland. He was inducted into the Hilton High School Alumni Hall of Fame in June 2003.

In addition to the community concert, he will present several workshops and performances in Hilton schools January 6 and 7: January 6 - Northwood Elementary School, 433 North Greece Road - 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.; January 6 - Quest Elementary School, 225 West Avenue - 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.; January 7 - Hilton High School, 400 East Avenue - 8:30 a.m.; January 7 - Village Elementary School, 100 School Lane - 2 p.m.
