Hilton blanked by Greece

Hilton failed to score a goal over two games as they lost to both the Greece Lightning and Greece Thunder 3-0 over the two-day Greece Hockey Tournament held at Lakeshore Ice Arena just after Christmas.

After dropping a 3-0 decision to the Lightning in the first round, the Cadets faced the Thunder in the total points format tourney. The Thunder jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period by going 2-for-3 on the power play with Mike DiManno and James Fiannaca getting the goals.

The Cadets had their best scoring opportunity in the second period when junior Jason Drummey blocked a shot at the point while killing a penalty and fed Jon Fose who was coming out of the penalty box for a breakaway. His shot was stopped by Greece goaltender Andrew Choma.

The Cadets had another golden opportunity with five minutes left in the third period when Fose created a turnover on the forecheck and fed Joe Christiano in the slot, but his shot was also stopped.

The Thunder put the game out of reach with a goal at the 11:28 mark when Hilton goaltender Jake Burge lost his stick. John Matolka fed Drew Hartman across the crease for an easy tap-in and the 3-0 final.

Burge made 25 saves in net for the Cadets. Hilton, after winning their first four games of the season, fell to 4-4.
