Holley cheerleaders make the season bright for three families

Thanks to the Holley varsity and junior varsity cheerleading squads, the holidays are brighter for three Holley families. For the past six years, the cheerleaders have "adopted" three families at holiday time and purchased gifts for all of the family members. Then, the week before Christmas, they pack up trucks and vans with the gift-wrapped packages and deliver them to the families with the help of Santa Claus. The students, their families and the coaches donate so many items, that the gifts have to be brought into the homes assembly line style. "We wanted to give some less fortunate families a nice holiday and teach the students about appreciating what they have," said Coach Penny Cole. "During the holidays, we need to reflect on how truly blessed we are."

The cheerleaders get the names of needy families from Holley Elementary School teachers and counselors. In addition to donations from the 49 girls, their families and the coaches, Ritchie Family Hardware in Spencerport donated items. The families were also provided with grocery store gifts cards, so they could purchase items for their holiday meals.
